I come from Vancouver B.C. and have lived in Northern California since 1980. In Vancouver I attended University to study Zoology, but after a few years of that my Artist stood up, flung off her labcoat and put on a painting smock for good. I attended Emily Carr School of Art for a few years and studied painting, drawing, etching and printmaking, sculpture and photography.
Through the years I have created many commercial designs, murals for the likes of Starbucks, book illustrations and .. of course.. my own paintings. I am also a professional website designer.
In the midst of all this came children who have a way of interrupting our busy lives and adult occupations, but once they were independent I have taken up my art more than ever.
My major influences have been so varied, but I consider myself to be a spiritual artist, bringing into view that which is hidden, the essence of life, of Spirit, and a kindred spirit with many artists, including William Blake, Odilon Redon and Ben Shahn. The Impressionists, Maxfield Parrish, Van Gogh, Roger Van der Wyden and Giotto and Bosch, and of course the Canadian Group of Seven, are among my favorites, as are Tiffany, Galle and LaLique, Hiroshige and Hokusai and all of the artists who were a part of the Japonsime movement. There are so many, I can only sigh with gratitude for their labors and hope that something I do can bring as much beauty into the world.
I have exhibited in various galleries both in North America and Europe and my work is owned by individuals around the world. I have generally preferred to sell my work privately and have had a great deal of success doing so.
I hope you enjoy your visit to my site and please do not hesitate to contact me if you wish. Studio visits are welcome.
